On a blue disc 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in diameter with a 1/32 inch (.08 cm) white inner border and a 3/32 inch (.24 cm) red outer border a white cetacean 113/16 inches (4.60 cm) in length with blue eyes.
The large dolphin like cetacean (grampus griseus), allied to the blackfish and whale and is representative of the internationally famed Pelorus Jack, the grampus who acts as a pilot fish to all vessels passing through French Pass, New Zealand. The colors red, white and blue are the National colors.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 15 August 1942.
